The steeple will be completed in the near future and it will, once again, stand as a beautiful statement in the center of Charleston to our commitment to God’s work.
Property maintenance funds have been exhausted but with further contributions to the Steeple Fund we will be able to complete needed repairs to the walls and windows of the sanctuary and education building.
Second Presbyterian is doing the work we are called to do, work that includes being stewards of this particular house of God, and the beautiful sanctuary where we get to come together to worship. If you would like to contribute toward the preservation of Second Presbyterian Church, PCUSA's Historic Site #1, and the many ways in which God is working through this particular place, please donate to the Bell Tower Steeple Fund online or deliver your donations to the church office.
The steeple and building repairs will not be complete without your support.
An old Presbyterian saying is “in good and proper order.” This steeple renovation is done with this in mind. However, in terms of the entire church, it is not a complete job. The balance of the sanctuary, the four walls and the windows on the exterior, still need repair and paint. The available funds of the Church for property maintenance are exhausted.
Please know of the Church’s sincere appreciation for your contribution. The steeple would not be complete without community support.
And please know that if you appreciate the success of the work done and want to help Second Church to finish the job of preserving the entire historic sanctuary, your contribution will be well spent.
Thank you for your support and prayers that God’s work be done in this place.
STEEPLE FUND
Second Presbyterian Church is the PC(USA) "Historical Site #1," the designated oldest recognized Presbyterian building in America. But this church is not a monument, it's a mission. We are a congregation known for its friendliness and its heart for service to ALL God's people. We are committed to serving our still-creating God in ways that are yet to be imagined!
The bell tower has been undergoing repairs since January 2020 as part of the vision of the Steeple Fund started in November 2019. A lightning strike caused a fire in the top of the bell tower on April 19, 2020, the full scope of which took many months to assess, but restoration was able to resume in July of 2021.
We hope you feel called to contribute toward the preservation of Second Presbyterian Church and the many ways in which God is working through this particular place. The steeple will be completed in the near future and it will, once again, stand as a beautiful statement in the center of Charleston to our commitment to God’s work. Property maintenance funds have been exhausted but with further contributions to the Steeple Fund we will be able to complete needed repairs to the walls and windows of the sanctuary and education building as part of this project.
Be a part of the legacy of Second Presbyterian and donate HERE (choose Steeple Fund from the drop down ‘fund’ options), place your donation in the offering plate on Sunday, or deliver it to the church office.
Help us bring the Second Church building back to its former glory, so it can continue to be a beacon for Charleston.
