Senior Pastor - The Rev. Cress Darwin
Cress Darwin is a Texas boy, born and raised in Fort Worth where he attended Texas Christian University. He received a BFA in theatre with a secondary focus on broadcast media. These interests led him to New York City where he was actually able to make a living as a “New York actor,” off-Broadway producer and television writer/producer specializing in documentaries for the A&E network series, Biography. He is married to the former Rebecca Wesson from Columbia, SC, whom he met in New York on a Super Bowl Sunday. Rebecca is founder of Garden & Gun magazine. She and Cress have two daughters, Lily and SaSa. Cress received his M.Div. from Princeton Seminary, taught in the Speech and Communications Department and earned a Masters of Theology in ethics.
Director of Campus & Young Adult Ministry - Colin Kerr
Colin Kerr is the missionary to college to students for the Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery, leading The Journey at the College of Charleston and the Citadel Military College. He is author of three books and has also been a contributor in the Charleston Post and Courier, Patheos, and Relevant Magazine. If you cannot find Colin in Kudu Coffee, your next best bet is anywhere where there is beach volleyball and surfing. He’s married to a very feisty nurse and bartender named Alexis and is currently a seminarian at University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.
Director of Children, Youth and Christian Education - Liv Looney Cappelmann
Liv Looney Cappelmann is a native of Fountain Inn, SC, right outside of Greenville. She has lived in Charleston for the last four and a half years and loves everything Charleston has to offer. She is a graduate of Presbyterian College and holds Bachelor Degrees in Christian Education and Religion. Although a Blue Hose by choice, Liv is a Clemson Tiger by birth. When she is not spending her time at work, Liv enjoys reading, spending time with family & friends, running [slowly], spending time with her husband, Sean, and their vizsla "puppy," Humphrey. Both Liv and Sean are excited to dive head first into life at Second Presbyterian.
Church Administrator - Suzann Lilienthal
Suzann has worked at Second Presbyterian since 2012 and has over 19 years experience in Human Resource Management. She is a native Charlestonian who treasures memories of walks on the The Battery, Hampton Park and shopping on King Street. When time permits she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, gardening and entertaining guests.
Communications Coordinator - Jordyn Pritchard
Jordyn is from Peachtree City, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia where she graduated with honors with a BFA in art and a minor in religion. She has worked as a freelance graphic designer and artist since moving to Charleston in 2010. She currently lives in West Ashley with her husband, Aled, and stays busy trying to keep up with their three small children- Lachlan (5) and twins Penny and Blair (almost 2). Raised Baptist, Jordyn found a home in the Presbyterian Church by way of her Scottish husband and they have been members of Second Presbyterian since 2013. She loves being outside with her family and if they are not at a playground, you will likely find them on the beach at Sullivan’s Island or wandering the farmers market. In her free time she enjoys painting, renovating the house, and watching Everton and Georgia football.
Director of Music - Dr. Julia Harlow
Julia Harlow is the Director of Music and Organist at Second Church and teaches music (ear training, organ and world music) at the College of Charleston. Originally from Iowa, her doctoral and masters degrees in organ and harpsichord performance are from the University of Oregon. She served on the board of the American Guild of Organists for 11 years and has been with us at Second Church for even more!
Director of Chapel Music - Tim Thompson
Tim is from Holly Hill, SC and has been teaching for 28 years. Currently he is at Rollings Middle School of the Arts teaching Piano, Music Theory and Music Encore classes. Music has always been his passion; he began taking piano lessons at the age of 8 and began playing in church at the age of 9. He received his formal training at the University of South Carolina and VanderCook College of Music, taught in Columbia for six years, and has been a teacher in Dorchester Two for the past 22 years.
He served as the 1997 DuBose Middle School Teacher of the Year and was also a DD2 Honor Teacher that year. In 2008, he was selected as the RMSA Teacher of the Year and was named the 2008 Dorchester Two District Teacher of the Year.
Chancel Choir Director - Lee Lingle
Lee holds a BA in Music from the College of Charleston where he studied choral conducting and performed in the College’s elite performing ensembles. He has performed in the Charleston Symphony Chorus in numerous concerts with both the Charleston Symphony and the Spoleto Festival Orchestra. Lee is a founding member and currently serves on the board of directors of the Taylor Festival Choir, one of the country's elite professional choirs and has released several cds the most recent of which was on the Grammy ballot. In addition to his professional work, Lee has been employed as a church musician at several churches in the southeast. He has also directed the choir at Second Presbyterian on numerous occasions filling in for Dr. Harlow and collaborating with Dr. Harlow on larger organ and choral works.
Sexton - Melvin Kizer
Melvin was born and raised in Charleston, joined Army and Air Force Reserve – has been a member of the Second Family for 33 years. He is a walking history book when it comes to the structure of Second Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he likes to fish, listen to soul, jazz and blues, and everyone knows Melvin loves to cook. He likes to read the Post and Courier and likes watching football.
Housekeeping - Annie Ravenel
Annie Ravenel has been a part of the Second Family for over 23 years. She has quite a "fan club" here at Second and has a very special recipe for "Charleston's Best Potato Salad," a staple on our Annual Tea Room menu. She has a sweet, contagious chuckle and loved by all.
Director of Kindergarten - Sue Henderson
Sue Allen Henderson has been Director of the Second Presbyterian Kindergarten since 1977. She has served as an elder and as a deacon at Second Presbyterian and on the Christian Education Committee in several capacities including as chair. She has been on the Boards of The Charleston Museum and Life Management. Sue is a graduate of The College of Charleston and has taught kindergarten for 35 years.
Assistant Director of Kindergarten - Erin Kerr
Erin Evans Potter Kerr is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and a graduate of the College of Charleston. Erin is married to Douglas Kerr and has two children, Grace (7) and Samuel (4). Erin has worked with children the past 14 years and currently serves as Assistant Director of Second Presbyterian Kindergarten and Preschool. In her free time, Erin likes to play outside with her family, cook, run, and be with friends.
Accountant - Christy Hulsey
Christy Hulsey is our accountant. Christy, her husband Clinton, daughters Katie and Abbi moved to Charleston two years ago from Atlanta. She received her accounting degree from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga. She has been in the accounting field for over fifteen years. Christy and Clinton own a small business accounting firm which services clients in Atlanta and Charleston. Christy and her family attend Seacoast Church where she assists in the nursery and with the special needs program.
